On a good day, motherhood is still a love/hate, best/worst kind of job. It’s for women who once considered themselves to be fairly normal individuals (pre-motherhood, duh) but now have realized that they’ve slowly become certifiably insane for having kids.
It truly is an unpolished job, but someone’s gotta do it!
For those of you who missed my 2013 Mother’s Day blog, I’m reposting it below. I went back and reread it just to make sure my feelings on the matter haven’t wavered since I originally wrote it one year ago. Sure enough, nothing has changed. My kids still drive me up a wall and I still secretly threaten to run away often. Very often! BUT… I love them down to the core and that will never change no matter how unpolished the job gets.
I hope you’ll take a moment and revisit the post titled, A WORD FROM YOUR MUTHA
JUST TO LET YOU KNOW… Yesterday, I went through the mail and as I sifted out the bills from the usual pile of junk, I came across something that excited me. When I recognized the handwriting on a pink envelope and the return address that belonged to my best friend, I quickly pushed away the stack of crap and took the special letter into my (wo)man cave to open. After I read the card that she so perfectly picked out, I realized that not only does my girl know me so well but the poor thing has had to put up with listening to me bitch about the insanity of motherhood for a solid eight years and counting! Clearly she’s been taking notes because the chick definitely hit the nail on the head with this one. It’s so spot on that I feel compelled to share it with all of my unpolished mama friends!
So… The front of the card looks like this:
Can you read the small print? It says:
VODKA. ATIVAN. EARPLUGS. WINE. PAXIL. GIN & TONIC. SENSE OF HUMOR. CHOCOLATE. GREAT FRIENDS. PERCOSETS. PROZAC. MARTINIS. MARGARITAS. CHIPS. ATIVAN. XANAX.
And… when you open it up:
Yup. That pretty much sums it up.
MOTHERHOOD. IT’S ALL ABOUT SURVIVAL!
I couldn’t have said it better myself.
Happy Mother’s Day 2014
Classic! So perfect!
From we’re I sit, not only are you a good mother, but you are a dynamite good daughter. Dad
Love it, put a smile on my face!
